WRITE INSPIRED BY ART
This fun, art-filled experience, offered in partnership with Airbnb, enlightens and engages anyone who writes or wants to write, from beginners to professionals, in any format - prose, poetry, screenwriting. We’ll discuss elements of process and craft, such as:
- How to become fluent in your authentic storytelling voice
- How to improve your writing practice
- How to distract the ‘critical voice’ in your head so you can keep writing
WHAT WE’LL DO
Guided Writing Tours™ are themed, writing excursions in evocative locations. All levels and genres of writing are welcome. On this Guided Writing Tour™, we’ll meet at the Hammer Museum – a local mecca of cutting-edge art in the heart of Westwood.
After checking in, we’ll find a table in the airy courtyard and ease into the experience with a relaxed conversation about where we’re from, what we’re writing and what we’d like to be writing.
I’ll custom-curate our exploration of current exhibits - it’s not your usual museum visit! I’ve discovered that exposure to art in this way evokes emotions and stirs memories, rich resources to mine for your writing.
Together, we’ll free-write to two or more experiential prompts, inspired by what we’ve seen, heard and felt. I’ll help you silence your inner critic and allow your writing to flow. You might be surprised when new ideas and perspectives show up in unexpected ways.
Along with plenty of time to write and reflect, you may share your experience or what you’ve written with the group. Whatever your expertise or background, I’ll offer specific ways to keep your writing process flourishing after you leave, and develop what you’ve written further.
Writers of all levels come away with inspiration, ideas, and (often profound) inner shifts. Previous guests have gone on to publish, produce and perform writing they started on the tour!
WHERE WE’LL BE
The Hammer Museum is located in Westwood, CA, steps from shops, restaurants, theaters and UCLA. The building is a modern Renaissance palazzo, with spacious galleries surrounding a serene, interior courtyard. “Free for good,” (free admission!) the Hammer Museum devotes its space to artists who challenge us to view our world in a new way and inspire change by igniting our imaginations. Audrey at the Hammer – their new restaurant –offers innovative grab + go and full-service menus in a mod, indoor/outdoor setting.
